  1. Quick ST - The Software Screen Accelerator

  11. WHAT IS QUICK ST?
  12.  
  13. Quick ST is a software accelerator.  It speeds up many of the ST's
  14. text and graphics functions, so that screen-oriented programs run
  15. faster.  This includes editors, word processors, spreadsheets,
  16. desktop publishing packages, most text-based programs, almost any
  17. GEM-based program, and even the ST's Desktop.  Windows redraw
  18. faster, the screen scrolls faster, and text prints faster.  A
  19. blitter chip is not required.

  21. Quick ST only accelerates programs that use TOS to perform screen
  22. output.  This means that video games, emulators and other programs
  23. that bypass TOS will not be affected.  Quick ST also does not have
  24. any effect on the speed of disk or math operations.  Quick ST is
  25. fully compatible with hardware accelerator boards.

  27. Quick ST even makes up for the screen slowdown caused by GDOS.
  28. With both Quick ST and GDOS installed, the system will operate as
  29. fast as without GDOS.  Desktop window updates can be two or three
  30. times faster.  Try it!

  32. Quick ST is written entirely in assembly language, so it is very
  33. fast and small.  Quick ST uses about 20K of memory.  Separate
  34. color and monochrome versions keep the program as small as
  35. possible.

  37. INSTALLATION
  38.  
  39. To install Quick ST on computers with both color and monochrome
  40. monitors, copy both QUICKSTM.PRG (the monochrome version) and
  41. QUICKSTC.PRG (the color version ) to the AUTO folder.  The
  42. appropriate version will install automatically at boot time.  On
  43. systems that have only one monitor, copy the appropriate file into
  44. the AUTO folder.

  46. When booting, Quick ST prints a copyright notice, the amount of
  47. RAM it uses and the computer's TOS version.  Quick ST is
  48. compatible with all versions of TOS, including TOS on disk and TOS
  49. 1.6.  A bell indicates that Quick ST has installed.
